Some of the children we feed in the Philippines appear to be healthy. Looks can fool you. Most all are in need of food. Knots can be found beneath the hair of some of the children, which are caused by reasons unknown. Some are club-footed, some are blind, and some stumble and hold onto others. Can you see at least one deformity in this picture?
Eight year old Jennylyn, and her younger sister held on her lap, are now dead from non-treatment of internal parasites caused by malnutrition. Both died shortly after this picture was made. Chances are the younger brother beside her is dead now as well. These children are part of hundreds who die weekly throughout the Philippines from starvation and lack of medical care. Even one cupful of rice per day might have saved them.
